Bike 2 Microbrewery 1/2 Day

Bike 2 Microbrewery 1/2 Day

Time efficient tour – cycling paths along Vltava river – city & parks – communist era houses – good beer & good food

“It’s all about enjoying Prague from a different perspective, about good beer and about good food. Bikes are just a way to combine it all.”

If you are on a  tight schedule and still want to do and see a bit more than others cruising the city on double-deckers or Segways, how about riding a bike along Vltava river to our favorite microbrewery in a little town just outside the capital? All you need is 4,5 hours of time and a very basic level of fitness! After a pick-up at your hotel we drive a bit out of the city to avoid all busy streets and we start biking straight on a lovely cycling path along the Vltava river. After a short warm-up we start a light climb in a small valley full of trees and meadows that leads us to an area with large paddocks that we will be crossing all the way to the site of a newly opened microbrewery.

We got just enough hungry and thirsty in order to enjoy our early lunch  – these guys cook damn well! You can choose anything between marinated cheese (great pairing with locally made beer) for a light hunger and a three course menu that nearly won’t allow you to ride your bike again that day! After we eat, drink and rest, we will jump back on our bikes and ride a slightly different way back to our car and finally we’ll drop you off at your hotel. If you don’t wish to bike too much, we can jump on a train instead after 5 kms downhill.

Best Singletrack in Czech

Best Singletrack in Czech

Singletrack like no other – pure riding fun – deep gorge with river – mind freshner

“After 15 years of riding bike trails in Czech I’m not afraid to say I know the best natural singletrack in the country – and it’s the one I’m going to show you! I will pick you up at your hotel and we’ll discuss all the bike stuff while we drive to the starting point.

For a warm-up we ride some smaller village streets and paved tracks by the Sazava  and Vltava rivers. Broad riverbanks change quickly into a winding track in a narrow valley with a small stream in a middle of it. And here is the funny part – we have to cross this stream about 9 times, sometimes via a little footbridge, sometimes even without.

sazava singletrack (3 of 4)

Before the most demanding (fortunately just 140 vm) climb of the day we enjoy the first true singletracks. The section that follows allows us to enjoy some beautiful views of small hills and we start descending to the Sazava river where we have our lunch – riding mainly on quite nice forrest trails.

The best natural singletrack in Czech that I know of starts once we descend to the river bank, and follows it all the way back to our car. It is 8 kilometres of the funniest ride you can imagine. Surrounded by a deep gorge with the river below our wheels we will be going up little uphills and riding small downhills at all times. Woooohooo!! Luckily there are numerous viewpoints of the river where we can catch our breath…

The track is pretty narrow at times so you need some skills, though, it is no enduro and even my mother could probably do it, if I told her she’d be safe ;-). Anyway. The faster you go, the more you pump, the more you enjoy!”

Microbrewery & Karlstejn Castle Bike Tour

Microbrewery & Karlstejn Castle Bike Tour

Overview

“A lot of kilometers had to be ridden and a lot of beer had to be drunk in order to prepare this tour.”

Sure, Prague is full of bars and pubs with great and cheap beer. But no beer tastes better than freshly poured in a microbrewery. After years of riding and years of tasting, we know the best place to go! …and because here in the Czech Republic bike belongs to our life in the same way beer does, we believe this is one of the best ways to spend a free day.

foceni_explore_19_6_2016 (24 of 85)

Highlights

  • One-of-a-kind tour in Prague
  • Escape busy downtown and enjoy Czech Republic countryside
  • Enjoy some really fine local craft beer after a good workout
  • Get to see the most beautiful castle in Czech Republic
  • Seriously small groups: 2017 average group size was 2.5
  • Enjoy villages and little towns, lovely river banks and parks

Description

After pick up at your hotel it is about 20 min drive to the starting point at the very edge of Prague. This way we avoid most traffic and we start enjoying great cycling paths along the Vltava and Berounka rivers. We are biking on flat trails surrounded by meadows and small towns all the way to the most beautiful and best preserved castle in Czech – Karlstejn. After about one hour break to soak the medieval atmosphere we head for a final push of about 12 kms to our favorite microbrewery in the area.

Though we have to climb a bit during the last part, it is really worth it. There are no more towns along the way, just little villages and lush countryside all around us. It seems people here live the same way as years ago, when communists operated a Czech biggest air-missile base carefully hidden in forrests of a hill above us… When we arrive in the cozy village of Vseradice, we enjoy a decent late lunch and taste locally made beer. Usually master is present and if so, he is always happy to show us around (this is no scheduled tour, he just likes to talk and we like to listen…)

foceni_explore_19_6_2016 (58 of 85)

We have more options for our way back, though usually we ride back our bikes near Karlstejn and then take a train back to our car and finally we drop you off at the hotel. If you feel you have reached your daily dose of exercise, we can just take the train all the way back to the car.

“HIGHLIGHT OF OUR 15 DAY VACATION”

Robert O`Donell, USA, June 2017

” This bike ride/micro brewery lunch was the highlight of our 15 day vacation. Touring Europe is great, but my wife and I look for outdoor exercise daily biking/hiking/walking. We can only see so many cities, castles, cathedrals and museums. Searching for a bike tour on line I discovered this one. When reading the description and reference to Small-Group we anticipated 4-6 people on the ride. Much to our surprise we were picked up at our hotel, on time actually early by our personal guide, Maertin who informed us it would be just us on the tour. Maertin’s English was excellent and his knowledge of the region combined with a sense of humor made for a great day. The ride and sights were excellent, not too difficult. When I asked if we could limit our time at Karlstejn Castle and focus on pedaling, he was very accommodating. We felt the cost of this tour was extremely reasonable downright cheap and great value. The micro brewery we had lunch at has a wide menu to choose from. The food and beer were outstanding and included in the tour price. If you are looking for some exercise, scenery, history and a good meal/drink this is the tour for you.”

Karlstejn Castle Scenic Bike Tour

Karlstejn Castle Scenic Bike Tour

Overview

“Let us take you to the most stunning castle in the Czech Republic, avoiding all traffic en route.“

We can’t imagine an easier and more enjoyable ride than the one to Karlstejn – a 27 km ride along two rivers with next to zero climbing, and the best – with no traffic at all! We avoid cars by starting our ride right on the edge of Prague, where we’ll drive you from your hotel.

foceni_explore_19_6_2016 (6 of 85)

Highlights

  • Escape busy downtown and enjoy laid-back countryside
  • Hotel pickup means no riding on cobblestone streets
  • Flat paved cycling paths with zero traffic
  • Seriously small groups: 2017 average group size was 2.5
  • Enjoy villages and little towns, lovely river banks and parks
  • Ideal for couples, families and all skill levels

Description

About 97% of the ride follows designated (mostly paved) cycling paths and before seeing the castle for the first time, you will enjoy peaceful Czech countryside and lush green forests that will make you think you’re much farther than a few minutes from Prague by train. If you feel like it, we can stop for a swim in the river or have a break at one of many little biker’s cafés that local cyclists like so much… Or perhaps we can make a small brake at our favourite bakery? If you prefer only paved tracks, no problem, if you don’t mind a bit of dirt, we know some shortcuts (still easy)!

The best comes at the very end of our ride, when we take you to a meadow squeezed between dense forests, where there is the most stunning view of the Karlstejn castle. It’s so stunning not just because Karlstejn is suddenly below us but especially because we see nothing but the castle and forests all around. Suddenly you feel like there might just be Charles IV and his companions marching on horses across the meadow…If you like to, feel free to attend a 55 minute tour inside the castle (170 CZK, not included in price), though we think castle’s beauty is rather outside than inside.

foceni_explore_19_6_2016 (24 of 85)

If you are a beginner to intermediate biker and you want to explore the Czech Republic capital’s surroundings, this is the way to go! Feel free to join your guide for a lunch at our favourite restaurant by the castle at the end of the ride (included in price). Finally you get back to Prague by pleasant 40 minutes ride on train, without having to worry about the bikes as we leave them at Karlstejn.
